Organize your life...you'll find that every task takes less time!
This is your step-by-step guide to success...
If, in the next week or 2, you make some time to organize your home, I think you'll see a vast improvement on how you are able to run your household. Organizing is one of those things that I firmly believe is worth the investment of your precious time. A little bit of attention spent to organize your home will pay off big. We are juggling so many appointments, activities and daily tasks that even the most organized person can get overwhelmed. Do you really want to be responsible for your child going to school on "Pajama Day" in his everyday clothes?! Heaven forbid!
When your home is clean and picked up (for however fleeting a moment), don't you feel somehow happier, more accomplished, more in control? I know I do. Children also benefit greatly from order. Chaos in your home just leads to chaotic behavior --- who needs that?
There are a few important areas to concentrate your efforts. Once these are conquered, consider applying these tips and techniques to every drawer, closet and cabinet in your home. Think of the time you can save in looking for things if they are all placed in a universally known location...no more "Mom, where are my shoes?" or "Honey, have you seen my glasses?" I don't know who said this originally but I just couldn't agree more..."A place for everything and everything in its place."
The main entrance area of your home (not necessarily the front door) is where shoes, coats, backpacks, keys, sunglasses and mail end up each day. Here's where you need to design a task-oriented Entrance Area.
Then just have a family meeting and define your expectations!
Have a family "meeting" to inform everyone on the new routine.
Define your expectations ("When you come in from outside, this is where your shoes go", etc.)Keep in mind that Mom and Dad have to comply with these rules also!
I also highly recommend a schedule to de-clutter and simplify each and every room of your house. Books, magazines, catalogs, clothing, shoes, toys, anything left around the house needs to be corraled and redirected. (Remember, "A place for everything...") Adopt this De-clutter Program and say good-bye to the endless piles of "stuff" around the house. Get the family involved! Make them responsible for their own space and belongings.
If you take each room as a separate organization project, it won't seem so daunting!
One of the final tasks in your quest to simplify your life is the process of getting rid of the excess and unwanted items in your home. I guess I am a glutton for punishment but I just love a good garage sale.
Check out my Garage Sale Primer. These tried-and-true methods will ensure success. You wouldn't do it if you didn't want to get rid of your clutter and make some money! And if you really hate the process perhaps it will inhibit buying the stuff that eventually becomes the clutter!
You can also sell things to a local resale shop or donate items to charities that will pick them up. (Or use a combination of all 3!)
So, to sum it all up...the first step is to:
develop a plan
then organize area-by-area
de-clutter everyday and finally,
simplify by getting rid of what you just don't want or need anymore.
Total home organization, when taken step-by-step, is not only a possibility but an achievable goal that you will appreciate EVERY DAY!!!!
